How Much Does a Hearing Test Cost in Nigeria?
By the HearMax Centre team

One of the most common reasons Nigerians delay a hearing test is money. People assume testing is expensive, or that it will immediately lead to a hearing aid purchase they cannot afford. So they wait — often for years.
The honest answer about cost is that it depends on a few specific factors. Here is what actually determines what you will pay, and how to get started without spending anything.
What determines the cost of a hearing test
The tests you need. A basic evaluation is not the same as a full diagnostic workup. Depending on your age, symptoms and clinical needs, an assessment may include pure tone audiometry, tympanometry, otoacoustic emissions, speech audiometry, an otoscopic examination or a combination of these. The more your audiologist needs to find out, the longer the session and the more it may cost.
The provider. Fees differ between private clinics, teaching hospitals and specialist ENT practices. Specialist practices with newer equipment and longer appointment times generally charge more — and you are paying for interpretation, not just a machine reading.
Your location. Prices in Lagos and Abuja tend to be higher than in other cities. Within Ibadan, you will find a range as well.
Follow-up and results. Some providers include result explanation and a written report in the testing fee; others charge for it separately. Always ask what is included before you book.
Why your first conversation can be free
At HearMax Centre, your first consultation is free. You tell us what you have noticed — the repeating, the noise problem, the volume wars at home — and we tell you which tests you actually need and what they involve. Only then do you decide whether to go ahead.
We would rather you get information first than let a price question keep you guessing for another two years.
What should you budget?
Rather than publish a number that may change, we will tell you plainly: call or WhatsApp us for current testing fees, and we will explain exactly what is included. If cost is the barrier, say so — we will talk you through the options before you commit to anything.
Who should get tested
Everyone benefits from a baseline test, and it matters most if you:
- Work or live around noise — generators, grinding shops, traffic, live events
- Frequently listen to earphones at high volume
- Have had repeated ear infections or sudden changes in hearing
- Have a family history of hearing loss
- Are 50 or older — older adults should test annually
- Have a child whose speech or school performance raises a concern
A hearing test is painless, takes about an hour, and tells you where you stand. The cost of finding out is small compared to the cost of not knowing.
